Cheap Android Smartphone With Three Years Of Updates

The five-camera Nokia 9 PureView may be grabbing all the spotlight at HMD's MWC 2019 event, but it's far from the only new model making its debut. The first is the power button on the right side of the frame that now gets a notification light built in. The "breathing light" as HMD calls it will glow and show a halo of white light around the power button whenever you receive a message notification or a missed call.

On the back is the fingerprint scanner below the dual-camera setup with Nokia branding in the middle and Android One badge at the bottom. Being a 2019 smartphone, the Nokia 4.2 comes with the customary waterdrop notch. Inside is a Kirin 980 processor, 8GB RAM, 512GB storage and a 4,500mAh battery.

Nokia has released several other, mainly cheaper, smartphones in recent weeks. The Nokia 4.2 has dimensions of 148.95 x 71.30 x 8.39mm, and the polycarbonate design has allowed HMD to bring the weight down to 161g. Given that the device comes with a Snapdragon 400 series SoC, charger I was a tad worried about the performance of the smartphone.

It's a way for Google to make cheaper phones more accessible to price-conscious users. The Li-Po 3000 mAh, non-removable battery gives the smartphone a good battery backup. You are limited to 30 fps 1080p at best here (both front and rear cameras) but the clips do turn out clean, with little to no tearing of frames when you're panning.

As an Android One device, the Nokia 4.2 runs on a clean and pure Android 9 Pie software. If you like your smartphone to have a subtle and minimalistic design, then Nokia 4.2 is something that you will like. The Nokia 4.2 is an average budget performer meant specifically for those looking for a clean stock Android experience.

At Rs 10,990, the Nokia 4.2 finds itself among a very competitive bunch of phones like the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Realme 3 Pro that are available for Rs 3,000 more. An interesting addition is the dedicated button for Google Assistant, which is located on the left side of the phone, just below the SIM card tray.

One advantage that the Nokia 4.2 offers compared to any other phone in this segment is the experience of stock and up-to-date Android. Launched in India at Rs 10,990, the Nokia 4.2 offers a premium glass design, waterdrop display and the promise of pure Android Pie experience.
